Three treatment methods for sunken eyelids

With age and the impact of unhealthy lifestyle habits, sunken eyelids often develop around the eyes. This condition makes a person appear aged and fatigued. Medical aesthetics typically offers three solutions for this issue.
1. Injectable Fillers: Various materials are used for filling sunken eyelids, including growth factors, botulinum toxin, collagen, hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid-based fillers, and medical-grade fillers like Ivorylane. While injectable fillers provide noticeable short-term results, their effects are typically temporary and do not last long.
2. Implant Filling Method:Pseudoprosthetic materials, primarily allogeneic dermis, are clinically used to fill facial soft tissue depressions. The allogeneic dermis is implanted into the sunken area and secured between the orbicularis oculi muscle and the orbital septum. Following implantation, local tissue gradually ingrows into the material. The surgical key lies in achieving optimal depth: excessive depth may impair eyelid movement, while insufficient depth may cause localized bulging when the eyes are closed.
3. Autologous Fat Grafting: Fat harvested from areas with excess fat deposits, such as the abdomen or thighs, is used to fill sunken regions. This method simultaneously addresses eye hollows and resolves abdominal fat accumulation, offering dual benefits. It is currently one of the more commonly employed techniques. Drawbacks include the tendency for grafted fat to form calcified clusters, resulting in uneven contours. Additionally, excessive or too deep grafting may cause eyelid ptosis.
Editor's Note: Each of these three solutions for sunken eyelids has its pros and cons. Seekers of beauty should consult extensively with their doctors to find the most suitable option. Of course, if your eyelids haven't yet sunken to the point of requiring treatment, don't be complacent. Start cultivating healthy lifestyle habits now, and sunken eyelids won't easily become a problem.
