Smoky eyes, also known as panda eyes (a term favored by older generations), is a distinct makeup technique.Smoky eyes break the old rule of sharply defined eyeliner and eyeshadow, blending seamlessly into the eye socket. Since the transition between colors is indistinguishable, resembling billowing smoke, and often using black or gray as the main tones, it evokes the appearance of charcoal-smoked marks—hence the vivid name "smoky eyes."Generally, smoky eyes tend to create a rather dramatic impression.
Who suits smoky eyes?
Almost all Asian women. Asian eyes naturally lack the deep socket definition common in Western features, making smoky eyes perfect for adding dimension. Conversely, Western women with naturally deep-set eyes may find smoky eyes appear overly dramatic!Especially
for those with triangular eyes or puffy eyelids. Since the outer corners often lack curvature and appear straight, giving the impression of drooping and a rigid, unchanging eye shape, the key is to start from the middle of the eyelid. Use smoky eyeshadow to enhance the natural curve of the eye's contour—not just lift the outer corners—for a more natural look!
Smoky Eye Tutorial
Step 1: Choose a brow powder matching your hair color to fill in sparse areas. You may slightly thicken the brows, but ensure edges remain soft—avoid harsh lines.
Step 2: Using a large blending brush, apply champagne-brown eyeshadow across the entire upper eyelid as a base.
Step 3: Using an eyeshadow brush, apply brown eyeshadow within the crease area. Blend carefully to seamlessly connect with the champagne brown base.
Step 5: Using a flat eyeshadow brush, apply dark brown eyeshadow in small fan shapes at the inner and outer corners to enhance dimensionality. Don't forget the outer lower corner.
Step 6: Apply black liquid eyeliner along the lash line, creating a slightly upward flick. Blend the liner with a flat brush.
Step 7: Skip the middle section of the lower lash line, applying liner only to the inner and outer thirds. If you're concerned that a full lower liner might make your eyes appear smaller, this technique is a more flattering option.
Step 8: Curl your lashes, apply false lashes, and coat both natural and false lashes with mascara.
Step 9: Apply orange-brown blush slightly above the cheekbones. Contour only the nose area for a subtle sculpting effect.
Step 10: Moisturize lips, apply foundation as a base to neutralize natural lip color, then apply nude-orange lipstick evenly across the entire lip.
