We often hear rumors that breasts grow larger with massage! Consequently, many women opt for massage to enhance breast size. Some claim it works, while others find no difference. So, does massage truly enlarge breasts?
First, we must understand that female breasts primarily consist of fat, along with mammary glands, blood vessels, and nerves. Breast development begins during female puberty.During this developmental process, estrogen plays a crucial role.
So, does massaging actually make breasts bigger?
At the Sixth National Breast Plastic Surgery Conference, Dr. Li Qin, Director of Plastic Surgery at Guangzhou General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region, stated:
"Essential oil massage for breast enlargement" is unreliable and largely a marketing gimmick.
"Breast development is influenced by multiple factors including genetics, hormone levels, nutrition, and developmental stage. Once development is complete, methods like essential oil massage merely stimulate local blood circulation, which may slightly affect mammary gland tissue. However, to achieve significant breast enlargement, surgical intervention is necessary—either breast implants or autologous fat transfer."
Professor Wang Shihu also stated in an interview with Public Health Network that a woman's breast size is determined by her developmental stage. After reaching adulthood, female breasts cease to develop. Post-developmental exercises, such as essential oil treatments and massage, can only yield minor changes and do not decisively alter breast shape. Moreover, careless application may lead to common breast enhancement pitfalls, resulting in more harm than good.
For instance, drug-based breast enlargement can easily lead to endocrine disorders and hormonal imbalances; dietary approaches most likely result in unwanted weight gain elsewhere; exercise primarily targets chest muscles, potentially improving shape and enhancing elasticity and firmness but offering little benefit for increasing volume; massage techniques similarly yield limited results.
Does breast enhancement work twice as well during menstruation?
Dr. Cao Lixing, Chief Physician of Gynecology at Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, explains that sex hormone levels undergo cyclical changes throughout the menstrual cycle.
Under the influence of these hormones, some women experience breast tenderness or swelling before menstruation, which subsides as menstruation begins and hormone levels change. Therefore, based on the cyclical nature of hormonal fluctuations during different phases of the menstrual cycle, consuming foods containing phytoestrogens—such as soy products and papaya—during menstruation may offer some breast enhancement benefits.
However, women with reproductive system disorders should consult a doctor before consuming such foods. "Because certain gynecological conditions are closely linked to hormonal levels, this breast enhancement method isn't suitable for everyone. It must be determined based on individual health status," emphasized Chief Physician Cao Lixing.
