Shoe odor can cause foot odor, or foot odor may cause shoe odor. Either way, both are embarrassing and can lead to feelings of inferiority. Fortunately, both foot and shoe odor are preventable. Here are some tips to eliminate them.
Tips for Eliminating Shoe and Foot Odor:
1. Place small packets of quicklime (like the desiccant found in snacks like Snowflake Biscuits) inside your shoes.
2. Tear grapefruit peel into small pieces and place them inside your shoes.
3. Soak feet in hot water (50-60°C/122-140°F) for 15 minutes at a time, 1-2 times daily. Repeat several times.
4. Add 10-15 ml rice vinegar to foot bath water, mix well, then soak feet for about 15 minutes. Do this once daily for 3-4 consecutive days to eliminate foot odor.
5. Add 50 grams of alum to hot water during foot washing. Soak for about 10 minutes to eliminate foot odor.
7. Before bed each night, use a cotton ball or cloth soaked in a small amount of alcohol to evenly wipe the inside of freshly removed rubber or sneakers. Allow them to dry overnight before wearing again. After two weeks of consistent use, the shoes will no longer emit odors.
8. Place an appropriate amount of dehydrated alum or dry lime powder in a small cloth bag and place it inside your shoes before bed each night.
9. Crush several camphor balls into powder and sprinkle inside clean shoes. Place an insole over the powder. This prevents foot odor when wearing the shoes. Avoid direct contact between camphor and feet. Replace the powder every other week. Camphor effectively inhibits bacteria, killing microorganisms that thrive in damp conditions and eliminating odor.
10. For new rubber or sneakers, evenly spray white wine onto the sponge sole (until it can no longer absorb). Once dried, they won't produce odors when worn (for old rubber or sneakers, wash them first before applying this method).
11. Place a packet of dry tea leaves (used leaves work too) inside shoes to absorb odors.
12. Winter melon rind: Known for relieving summer heat, strengthening the spleen, and promoting diuresis, winter melon rind treats edema, abdominal distension, and urinary difficulties caused by kidney, lung, or heart conditions. Boil rind in water for foot baths to simultaneously cure athlete's foot and eliminate foot odor.
13. Socks often develop odors. Add a splash of white vinegar to the washing water, soak briefly, then rinse thoroughly. This eliminates odors and provides antibacterial benefits.
14. Shoe cabinet odors are easily resolved. Simply place a bar of soap inside to effortlessly eliminate unpleasant smells. Opening the cabinet will even release a pleasant fragrance.
Friendly reminder: Foot odor is a medical condition. Those with athlete's foot must seek timely treatment. The tips above only address symptoms and do not cure the underlying condition.
