Scientific research suggests human lifespan should reach 125–145 years. Why then do so few people live to 100 today? Beyond societal, medical, and quality-of-life factors, it relates to our inability to eliminate negative psychological influences. As the saying goes: "To live long, keep your mind clear." Especially in old age, dispelling harmful mental attitudes is crucial for health preservation.
Forget Your Age, Maintain Vitality One's biological age is objective, but psychological age differs—it reflects mental state. Some people, barely past sixty, constantly remind themselves they're old. This negative mindset is a major enemy of health and longevity. As the saying goes, "If you don't dwell on aging, old age won't come"—there's truth to that.
Forget resentment and embrace generosity. When one sows seeds of hatred, thoughts of revenge take root, leading to endless scheming for the perfect moment to strike back. This robs one of peace throughout life. Letting go of resentment brings tranquility, greatly benefiting longevity.
Forget Sorrow and Free Yourself from Grief When faced with natural disasters, human tragedies, or the loss of loved ones, people often become trapped in profound sorrow. Prolonged grief damages both physical and mental health. Therefore, when encountering such events, one should learn to let go and free oneself from the pain.
Forget anger, think positively, and let go quickly. When faced with urgent matters, people easily become impatient, leading to blocked blood flow, elevated blood pressure, accelerated heart rate, and even death from anger. What benefit is there in dying from a momentary fit of rage?
Forget sorrow to reduce illness. Being overly sentimental inevitably invites disease. Modern medicine recognizes sorrow as a primary root cause of depression.A lifetime of excessive sentimentality can lead to multiple illnesses, ultimately allowing disease to claim one's life. Forget regret and let go of the past. All matters that cause regret become history with the passage of time. One should be able to pick things up and put them down. Constantly dwelling on things that cannot be undone only leads to prolonged sadness and mental distress, which is detrimental to health and longevity.
Forget illness to ease mental strain. When afflicted, most people dwell on their ailments, even worrying about their remaining days—a futile exercise. Fixating on illness weakens immunity and worsens the condition. Face disease with composure to conquer it mentally.
Forget fame and fortune to live more freely. Fame and wealth are lifelong pursuits, but they must be approached with wisdom. Especially for the elderly, only by letting go of ambition, embracing contentment, and adopting an optimistic outlook can one achieve health and longevity.
