While there are numerous methods for facial beauty, many come with side effects. For slimming the face and reducing wrinkles, traditional Chinese medicine offers unique massage techniques to achieve these goals. Today, let's learn two massage techniques for beauty together. Simple Face-Slimming Exercises Face-Slimming Exercise 1: Inhale deeply, puffing out your cheeks as much as possible. Then exhale completely. Repeat this cycle several times.Simultaneously, use the thumbs of both hands to gently push the fat at the cheekbones upward and inward. Hold each push for several seconds and repeat several times. You may feel slight discomfort, which indicates the technique is working—no need to worry. Lightly tap the lower cheekbones with your knuckles about fifteen times.
Face-Slimming Exercise 2: Press from the forehead to the temples with both hands, repeating 3-4 times.Alternate using your middle and ring fingers to gently press along both sides of the nostrils, repeating 1-2 times. Next, massage your cheeks in a spiral motion from the jawline to below the ears, then from the ears to the upper part of the nose, repeating twice. Alternate using your thumbs and index fingers to gently lift the jawline, moving from left to right three times. Finally, use both palms to gently stroke the neck upward from the base.
Face-Slimming Exercise 3: Starting from both sides of the nasal bridge, move through the nostrils and pull upward in an arc toward the temples. Then, begin from the temples and move toward the center of the forehead. Use a stretching and light pressing motion. Starting from the inner corners of the eyes, slowly move across the forehead toward the temples. Then, move along the upper cheekbones toward both sides of the nose, performing stretching and pressing motions.
Face-Slimming Exercise 4: Begin below the lips, move toward the lower ear area, then repeat the massage toward the back of the chin. Start beside the nostrils, move across the bridge of the nose toward the forehead, then extend down to the chin via the temples. Begin at the chin, move toward the forehead via the ear base and temples, then extend along both sides of the nose to the mouth area using a stroking and pressing motion.
Face-Slimming Exercise 5: Your eyes are a part of your body that can quite easily reveal your age and lifestyle habits. Sit upright and relaxed in a stable chair. Close your eyes and hold this position while moving your eyeballs up and down as far as possible. Relax when you reach 10. Perform this routine at least 10 times daily.
Wrinkle-Reducing Massage Techniques
Forehead Lines: Press your fingers against the skin just above your eyebrows. Lift your fingers upward while resisting the urge to raise your eyebrows, keeping your forehead taut for 5-8 seconds. Release. Repeat 4 times. This strengthens the elasticity of your forehead muscles.
Nose Lines: Using the index fingers of both hands, gently scrape along the eyebrows from the inner to outer corners, repeating 5 times on each side. Then massage in circular motions from the inner to outer corners with the fingers, repeating 5 times on each side.
Eye wrinkles: Press both palms against your temples and resist this pressure. Slowly move your fingers toward your cheekbones while continuing to blink for about 5 seconds. Repeat this 3 times.
Mouth wrinkles: Pucker your lips forward into an "O" shape. Simultaneously massage from your upper lip to your cheeks with your fingers for 5-8 seconds. Relax your mouth, wait 5 seconds, then repeat the massage 5 times.
Beyond these, let me share additional wellness massage techniques.
Simple Wellness Massage Methods
Key Acupoint #1: Zusanli (ST36). This vital point significantly impacts health, yielding notable benefits with regular stimulation.Located on the Stomach Meridian, it is commonly used to treat spleen and stomach disorders. The spleen and stomach form the foundation of acquired health. All food and water consumed must be transformed and transported by them to nourish the entire body. Their function is akin to a food processing plant. If this plant malfunctions, insufficient nourishment leads to physical starvation, resulting in a haggard appearance and dull complexion.Respiratory, cardiovascular, and urinary system disorders, gynecological issues, chronic fatigue, emaciation, and various deficiencies may all stem from impaired spleen and stomach function. Therefore, any health concerns arising from insufficient spleen and stomach function can be addressed through Zusanli for both prevention and treatment. The human body is like a skyscraper, with the spleen and stomach serving as its foundation. Only with a strong spleen and stomach can one's health be firmly grounded. Where is Zusanli located? You can locate it while seated.Sit upright with knees bent at a right angle. Place your palm on the knee on the same side as your hand, with the web of your hand encircling the upper edge of the knee. Position the four fingers (excluding the thumb) downward, using your index finger to press the shin bone below the knee. The tip of your middle finger will locate Zusanli.Regular massage yields results. This point is highly effective—simply knead it occasionally without worrying about technique or frequency.Moxibustion is also effective. Purchase a moxa stick, ignite it, and hold the burning end about 3 cm above the Zusanli point until the skin feels warm. Each session should last about 15 minutes and can be performed regularly.
Second Major Point: Xuehai (Blood Sea). For women, blood is fundamental. To maintain a rosy complexion, nourishing and replenishing blood is essential. How to nourish blood? Beyond daily nutritional intake to ensure adequate blood-producing substances, acupoints offer powerful support. Blood Sea is a star for this purpose. Belonging to the Spleen Meridian, it governs blood flow—a vital force for all blood-related conditions. Its effectiveness in nourishing blood when healthy is self-evident.
How to locate Xuehai? It is situated on the inner thigh, 2 cun (approximately 4 cm) above the medial end of the patella. To find it, lie supine on a bed, fully extend your leg and calf, and locate a raised muscle 2 cun above the medial upper border of the patella. The center of this muscle is Xuehai.
How to use Xuehai? The simplest method is self-massage—gently knead and press the point regularly during leisure time.
The 3rd Major Acupoint: Taixi (Kidney 3): Maintains Women's Hydration, Another Excellent Choice. Let's first examine the name Taixi. "Tai" means large or abundant; "Xi" refers to a stream. Together, it roughly signifies abundant stream water. How does this benefit women's beauty? As the saying goes, "Women are made of water." For skin to remain supple and moist, nourishment from water is essential.Taixi is a vital point that supplies the body's "water source."
Regulating the Body Among the five organs and six viscera, the kidneys govern water and store essence. When kidney deficiency occurs, the body's water fails to control internal heat. Excessive heart fire leads to issues like insomnia, inflammation, thirst, constipation, dry skin, and dull complexion—making beauty care impossible.Taixi is the source point of the kidney meridian, functioning like a warehouse storing kidney qi. When the body lacks kidney qi, it can be drawn from this reservoir. Thus, beauties seeking radiant skin must utilize Taixi. Additionally, Taixi is a major point for replenishing original qi. Regular stimulation here ensures abundant vital energy, enhancing overall physical well-being.
Locating Taixi is straightforward. It sits on the inner side of the foot, behind the inner ankle bone. The depression between the Achilles tendon and the tip of the inner ankle bone is Taixi.
Using Taixi is simple—massage or moxibustion works. Massage it often during free moments, or apply moxa for 15 minutes. Regular moxibustion naturally boosts kidney qi, resulting in a rosy, dewy complexion.
The 4th Major Acupoint: Shenmen. This point nourishes the heart and calms the spirit—its name itself reveals its vital role in nurturing mental well-being. Belonging to the Heart Meridian, Shenmen addresses all health issues related to mental clarity and emotional balance, as traditional Chinese medicine holds that the heart governs mental clarity and houses the spirit. As the source point of the Heart Meridian, Shenmen functions like a reservoir storing the meridian's vital energy. Modern women often face intense work stress, leading to mental health issues like insomnia, forgetfulness, and irritability. Over time, this can cause mental fatigue, physical exhaustion, and a haggard appearance.
Only proper and appropriate massage can truly achieve health and beauty benefits.
