In daily life, scalds from boiling water or burns from fire are common occurrences at home, and occasionally electrical burns or chemical burns may also happen. How should minor burns or scalds be treated?Generally, the combined area of the palm and back of the hand with fingers together is approximately 1% of the body surface area. Typically, burns covering less than 1% of the body surface area that only affect the epidermis and dermis can be treated at home. For small burns, apply a small amount of toothpaste.
Common treatment methods include:
1. For burns on the head or neck, avoid bandaging. Use the exposed wound therapy method, applying only burn ointment to the affected area. Ensure the wound remains free from contamination by nasal discharge, tears, or saliva. If the wound becomes severely contaminated, seek medical attention promptly for tetanus antitoxin injections and antibiotics to prevent infection.
2.If blisters have ruptured and the area is contaminated with dirt, rinse with saline solution. Clean and disinfect the surrounding area, then cover the wound with Vaseline gauze and sterile gauze dressing. Change the dressing every 2–3 days.
3. If blisters form, avoid puncturing them to prevent infection. For large blisters, seek medical attention.
4. For minor burns covering small areas, promptly rinse the affected area with cold water to reduce temperature, alleviate pain, and minimize swelling. If the burn site is dirty, wash with soapy water but avoid vigorous scrubbing.
5. For minor burns, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the skin to prevent dryness and promote healing.
4. For minor burns covering a small area, promptly rinse the affected area with cold water to lower temperature and reduce pain and swelling. If the burn site is dirty, rinse with soapy water but avoid vigorous scrubbing. After patting dry, apply burn ointment, red flower oil, or similar medication.
5.For kitchen burns, rinse with cold water to cool the area. After patting dry, apply vinegar to prevent blistering. If pain persists, reapply as needed. The skin will peel off naturally over time without scarring.
It's advisable to keep burn ointment at home. Applying it to minor burns helps reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and promote healing.Minor burns are common in daily life, and people often assume self-treatment is sufficient.
