Without appropriate intervention, complications such as high muscle tone, joint stiffness and contractures, and impaired motor and speech functions may develop. Thus, rehabilitation therapy is vital for children with cerebral palsy.
How to Conduct Effective Rehabilitation Training for Pediatric Cerebral Palsy
Early rehabilitation treatment maximizes improvements in motor function and enhances the quality of life for children with cerebral palsy. Generally, the earlier rehabilitation training begins, the better the outcomes. Current domestic and international recommendations emphasize:targeted muscle strength and joint range-of-motion exercises; stretching therapy for spastic muscles; intensive functional active movement training; and the use of assistive devices such as orthoses, chairs, standing frames, and wheelchairs. Speech rehabilitation is also integral, with treatment tailored to specific speech disorders following assessment by physicians and speech therapists.Children with cerebral palsy may exhibit associated psychological and behavioral issues, such as autism, hyperactivity, or emotional instability. Early psychological and behavioral intervention is crucial for preventing and managing these conditions. Three Key Methods for Preventing Pediatric Cerebral Palsy 1. Prenatal Prevention Actively learn about eugenics and prenatal care education to enhance maternal health. Conduct early prenatal examinations and fetal monitoring to prevent congenital disorders.If fetal abnormalities are detected, termination of pregnancy is necessary to prevent the birth of an affected infant. To achieve optimal prenatal outcomes, expectant mothers must prioritize perinatal healthcare. Key considerations include: 1. Avoiding viral infections like influenza and rubella, particularly during weeks 10-18 when fetal neural development is most rapid; 2. Refraining from unnecessary medication use, especially sedatives, anesthetics, and cold remedies;3. Prohibit smoking and alcohol consumption (including for the male partner); 4. Avoid exposure to toxic substances and radiation. Limit unnecessary ultrasound examinations, minimize television viewing, and stay away from radiation sources like microwave ovens and battery-powered stoves.
Additionally, prenatal screening should be initiated early in the following cases: 1. Pregnant women over 35 years old or male partners over 55 years old; 2.History of giving birth to a child with intellectual disability or congenital malformations; 3. History of unexplained miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, or neonatal death; 4. Consanguineous marriage; 5. Presence of a hereditary disease among relatives of either partner, or if either parent has a hereditary disease.Therefore, preventing premature birth and difficult labor, actively cooperating with medical staff in managing complicated deliveries, and enhancing healthcare professionals' technical proficiency to avoid neonatal injury during delivery are crucial steps in preventing cerebral palsy.
3. Prevention of Secondary Conditions
Acquired cerebral palsy results from brain trauma, cerebrovascular disease, or brain infections. Thus, strengthening prevention against these conditions is essential.
