Eyebrows, positioned above the eyes, profoundly reflect a person's aura. Numerous terms describe them—sword-shaped brows, willow-leaf brows. The word "brow" (眉) shares a homophone with "beauty" (美), and idioms containing "brow" often denote beauty: "clear brows and bright eyes" (眉清目秀), "brows and eyes like a painting" (眉目如画). Since ancient times, "brow" has been used metaphorically for a beauty, with one classical interpretation stating, "Brow (眉) signifies charm; it embodies allure."Today, a popular term for a beautiful woman is "pretty girl" (美眉). This underscores the significant role eyebrows play in beauty. Eyebrow tattooing is a common minor procedure. Below is a detailed description of the process.
Before tattooing: The tattoo needle must be sterilized by soaking in disinfectant. Cotton balls used during the procedure must be sterilized, and pigment must be single-use per client. The pre-drawn brow shape is wiped with a cotton ball soaked in 1:1000 chlorhexidine or 75% alcohol for disinfection.
During the procedure: The technician holds the eyebrow tattoo machine or needle, dips it into a small amount of tattoo ink, and repeatedly punctures the skin along the drawn brow shape. This deposits the ink—containing titanium dioxide particles and food-grade pigments—into the dermis layer of the skin.Apply consistent pressure during tattooing, maintaining appropriate depth. For the brow head and upper/lower edges, use the dot technique. For the middle section and tail, employ either the dot or dot-and-stroke technique. Throughout the procedure, repeatedly wipe away excess pigment and exudate with saline-soaked cotton balls to monitor coloration.
Anesthesia is generally unnecessary during eyebrow tattooing; clients experience only mild pricking sensations, with pain levels entirely tolerable.
Both the technician and client should continuously monitor coloration and brow shape throughout the procedure. Any unsatisfactory areas can be corrected immediately through further tattooing until the desired result is achieved.
Post-procedure care:
Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the treated area to prevent infection and excessive scab formation. This concludes the eyebrow tattooing process.
Freshly tattooed brows may appear slightly darker initially. Typically within about one week, after a thin layer of scab peels off, the true color will settle, appearing realistic and natural. If the color seems too light after scab removal, a second touch-up session can be performed to perfect the brow shape.
