Eyebrows can serve as the finishing touch to one's appearance. As far back as our mothers' youth, eyebrow tattooing was already a trend. Many may think eyebrow tattooing is simple and no big deal, but in reality, the failure rate is quite high when done at beauty salons or similar establishments.So, how can you fix a botched eyebrow tattoo?
Empty Needle Technique
The tattoo machine repeatedly passes over the eyebrows without depositing pigment. This causes superficial skin damage that scabs over and naturally sheds, gradually lightening the eyebrow color. This method is slow-acting, produces poor fading results, carries a high risk of infection and scarring, and is only effective for lightly pigmented tattoos.
Chemical Fading Solution
This method utilizes the exfoliating and corrosive properties of chemical agents to fade the pigment. The skin is disinfected locally, then an eyebrow tattoo machine is used to create empty needle marks on the eyebrows. A fading agent is then applied to the eyebrows according to the instructions. The operator should use a disinfected cotton swab to apply the fading agent, preventing excessive use that could damage the skin and leave scars.Post-procedure care must prevent infection, allowing scabs to shed naturally. This method is commonly found in beauty salons.
High-Frequency Electrolysis Removal
After standard disinfection of the eyebrow area, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The operator must strictly control the depth, avoiding excessive removal—typically only targeting the superficial dermis.The patient must keep the area dry and avoid water contact to prevent infection. Scabs should be allowed to fall off naturally to prevent scarring. Eyebrows will temporarily fall out and regrow in about twenty days. This method works well for individuals with light-colored, poorly shaped eyebrows. For those with darker colors that cannot be removed in one session, a second procedure should be performed 3-6 months later.
Laser Removal Method
This technique leverages laser energy to effectively destroy melanin particles. Pigment is instantly vaporized or broken down into minute particles, leaving surrounding tissue undamaged. This achieves removal of failed eyebrow tattoos.This method is simple, quick, safe, bloodless, minimally painful, and leaves no scars. However, eyebrows may appear thinner or yellowish, with new growth emerging in about 20 days. It is currently the most effective technique, though less successful on non-black tattooed eyebrows.
Surgical Eyebrow Removal
For non-black tattoos resistant to laser removal, surgical excision can be performed to remove poorly shaped sections, creating a natural post-operative eyebrow contour, or to completely remove the tattooed eyebrows. Re-tattooing can be performed six months post-surgery. However, individuals with keloid-prone skin should not undergo surgical eyebrow removal.
