However, in the past two years, the number of people receiving Botox injections in China has also been increasing.

"It was like a light bulb went off in my head! No wonder all my efforts had failed!" The friend's words had a profound effect on him, sparking a search for ways to appear younger. Ultimately, he settled on Botox injections. "I heard one session could eliminate crow's feet and make you look ten years younger."
"For clients like this, we always make it clear before surgery: Botox does reduce wrinkles, but expecting to look ten years younger—or boost your chances in a leadership election—is unrealistic." The doctor explained this thoroughly to the middle-aged man beforehand. After some consideration, he still insisted on proceeding.
As he was leaving, the man quietly pulled the doctor and Qiu Yan aside:Please don't tell anyone. If my colleagues find out, I'll lose all face."
After the man left, he never contacted the hospital again. Whether he succeeded in his promotion bid remains unknown.
Officials' Plastic Surgery: From Bottom to Fourth
An industry report analyzing China's plastic surgery market over the past decade reveals that the proportion of officials undergoing procedures has been rising annually.In 1999, officials ranked last among cosmetic surgery clients. By 2009, however, they had surged to fourth place, tied with trauma patients and those undergoing corrective procedures for congenital deformities. Industry insiders revealed that over the past two years, officials and their spouses have increasingly sought surgeries, now accounting for roughly 20% to 25% of all cosmetic surgery clients.
Two trends have emerged among cosmetic surgery patients in recent years: first, a rise in male patients, now comprising about one-fifth of all patients. Second, an increasing number of government officials are undergoing procedures. Many officials opt for treatments like eye bag removal and wrinkle reduction to project a more approachable image. Some commentators note, "The rise in official cosmetic procedures is positive, indicating a gradual shift in their awareness."
