Washing hair daily. Daily washing can make hair appear dry. Unless hair is particularly oily, washing every other day is recommended. If daily washing is necessary, use minimal shampoo, focusing on cleansing the roots and scalp. Changing shampoo frequently. There's no need to switch shampoos often. However, those who regularly use hair oil or gel should occasionally use a stronger cleansing shampoo to remove residue.
Over-conditioning. While many prefer highly moisturizing hair products, avoid applying them to the roots. The scalp naturally produces oils, so the roots don't need excessive hydration.
Skipping hair care entirely. Proper hair care prevents dryness. Some strong cleansing shampoos can be harsh, making conditioning even more essential.
Using excessively hot water.Excessively hot water strips away more moisture and natural oils. Rinsing with cooler water leaves hair looking shinier. Over-rinsing. Excessive rinsing accelerates color fading in dyed hair. Taiwanese TCM practitioner Lin Zaiyu notes that symptoms like greasy, shiny scalp, increased dandruff, and noticeable itching are often linked to poor sleep and overly greasy diets.
