Step one: Start by selecting the most comfortable water temperature. Test it on your scalp—around 40°C (104°F) is generally ideal. Wet all hair thoroughly with warm water. Any missed spots may remain unclean, leaving residue.
Next, squeeze out an appropriate amount of shampoo. For medium-length hair, a dime-sized amount is usually sufficient. Adjust based on your hair length—use less for short hair and more for long hair.
Step two: Apply the prepared shampoo directly to five sections of your hair—front, middle, and back. This ensures even distribution across your scalp. Some people lather shampoo in their hands before applying it to the scalp, but this wastes product and isn't recommended.First, thoroughly cleanse the scalp. Use the entire palm to massage the scalp—not the fingertips—to create a fine, creamy lather.
Step 3: Once the hair is fully lathered, use your fingertips to massage the scalp more thoroughly. Never use your nails, as this can scratch the scalp—always use your fingertips.
Step 4: For deeper cleansing or if you have long hair, comb the lather from roots to ends with a brush. This helps remove dirt more effectively.
Step 5: Next, rinse the lather thoroughly from your hair. Run your fingers through your strands, paying special attention to rinsing the inner layers. If you followed the previous steps correctly, the lather should wash out smoothly now.
