Autumn and winter are peak seasons for chronic pharyngitis, with cold weather and dry climates exacerbating symptoms. Here's a simple medicinal tea to alleviate chronic pharyngitis:
Take 5 fresh figs (sliced), 12g of Ophiopogon japonicus, and 20g of honeysuckle (daily dose). Steep in boiling water for 30 minutes and drink as tea. Continue for 5-7 days.
In this formula, figs are sweet and cooling in nature, entering the lung, stomach, and large intestine meridians. They clear heat, generate fluids, moisten the lungs, promote bowel movements, strengthen the spleen, stimulate appetite, detoxify, and reduce swelling. They are generally suitable for most people. They contain malic acid, citric acid, lipase, protease, and hydrolase, which promote digestion, increase appetite, and reduce/break down blood lipids, thereby lowering blood pressure and preventing coronary heart disease. Their various lipids also lubricate the intestines and relieve constipation. Active components possess anti-inflammatory and swelling-reducing effects, soothing sore throats and reducing swelling.Select figs that are flat and round in shape, with yellow skin, tender flesh, and a sweet flavor. Ophiopogon (麦冬) has a sweet and slightly bitter taste, a mildly cold nature, and enters the Heart, Lung, and Stomach meridians. It nourishes yin, generates fluids, moistens the lungs, and stops coughing. Honeysuckle (金银花) has a sweet taste and cold nature, entering the Lung and Stomach meridians. It clears heat, detoxifies, reduces inflammation, and alleviates swelling.
This formula is simple yet effective and worth trying. For sore throats, dried figs can also be ground into powder and applied to the throat for relief.
