A hump nose is a congenital deformity. Clinically, it manifests as a broad nasal bridge with an angular protrusion forward. Beyond affecting overall facial aesthetics, some even consider hump noses and upturned noses to be inauspicious nose shapes. In reality, hump nose correction surgery can effectively address this defect.
Hump Nose Correction
Hump nose correction is one of the most mature cosmetic procedures, capable of achieving highly satisfactory results. Based on years of clinical experience, we classify the severity of hump noses into mild, moderate, and severe categories. Each severity level receives a customized treatment plan.Comprehensive evaluation and customized design significantly enhance the effectiveness of hump nose correction.
Preoperative Preparation for Hump Rhinoplasty
Select a qualified surgeon. Choose an appropriate implant (non-osteotomy method). Obtain a cranial X-ray if necessary. Undergo a health examination. Avoid makeup before surgery. Women should schedule outside menstruation. Take preoperative photographs.
Implant Selection for Hump Nose Correction
(Non-osteotomy method) Common implants include silicone implants and Goretex.
Silicone Implants: Non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-resorbable. Their hardness approximates nasal tissue, making them easy to sculpt. Cost-effective, though rare cases of rejection may occur.
Gore-Tex: Currently the world's most advanced rhinoplasty material, FDA-approved. Its microporous structure allows autologous tissue ingrowth, integrating seamlessly with surrounding tissues for secure fixation. Offers a lifelike feel with soft edges; post-implantation, the nasal bridge exhibits smooth, natural contours and authentic sensation.
Hump Rhinoplasty Techniques
Non-Osteotomy Approach: Suitable for mild Type I "hump nose." The surgical method is similar to "rhinoplasty." The key lies in the precise sculpting of the nasal implant.
Osteotomy Approach: Begins with preoperative planning. A columellar lateral incision is typically chosen.Make an incision with a sharp scalpel. Using rounded curved scissors or mosquito forceps, dissect along the surface of the lateral nasal cartilage and nasal bone, extending upward to the nasal root and laterally to the maxillary frontal process. Based on preoperative measurements, remove the protruding osteophytes using a bone chisel. Trim the protruding septal cartilage and nasal cartilage. Finally, smooth the surface with a bone rasp.
Postoperative Care for Hump Nose Correction
Do not remove the external nasal fixation on your own after hump nose correction surgery. This external fixation provides crucial support for achieving an optimal nasal contour, and satisfactory results depend on maintaining it until sutures are removed.
Post-surgery dietary restrictions include avoiding smoking, alcohol, and spicy or irritating foods for one month. Refrain from any supplements or medications that may accelerate blood circulation, reduce clotting mechanisms, or impair wound healing—such as ginseng, aspirin, blood-activating drugs, weight-loss medications, or menstrual regulation drugs. Consult your doctor if needed.
