Two Common Methods for Correcting a Hump Nose
1. Osteotomy Technique for Hump Nose Correction: This method is suitable for patients with moderate to severe hump noses. The procedure involves using alar cartilage for rhinoplasty. For long nose deformities, a butterfly incision is employed, with the lower edge extending to the base of the columella.
The procedure begins by chiseling and excising the protruding hump on the nasal dorsum, including both nasal bone and septal cartilage. Subsequently, an oblique osteotomy is performed on the lateral aspect of the nasal bone to achieve hump reduction.
2. Non-osteotomy hump rhinoplasty: For mild hump noses, correction primarily involves increasing the nasal tip height. This procedure uses pre-fabricated expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) or silicone implants, which are inserted into the nose.During surgery, the central portion of the implant (either ePTFE or silicone) corresponding to the hump area is kept relatively thin, while the ends of the nasal dorsum hump are filled to achieve the corrective effect.
Postoperative Care for Hump Nose Surgery
1. Hump nose surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia, lasting approximately two hours. The procedure carries minimal risk. Postoperatively, external fixation with plaster or splint is required, along with compression bandaging. Eyes may be covered for 1-2 days. Local swelling subsides in 3-5 days, with sutures removed after one week.
2. Avoid external impacts. Soft tissue typically heals completely within two weeks post-surgery, while full recovery of bone and cartilage takes 2-3 months. Daily activities resume normally after suture removal.
