A man's muscular physique can instill a sense of security in women. However, many men develop a beer belly and thick thighs due to prolonged office work and lack of exercise. If you're troubled by your deteriorating physique and unsure how to address it, don't worry. Below, we introduce leg muscle training methods. We hope this proves helpful.
Principles of Leg Muscle Training
Thigh muscles are divided into the anterolateral group, posterior group, and medial group. The quadriceps femoris, part of the anterolateral group and one of the body's most powerful muscles, comprises the rectus femoris, vastus intermedius, vastus lateralis, and vastus medialis. These four muscles function to keep the femur vertical, maintaining upright posture and assisting in squatting and standing. The anterolateral group also includes the sartorius and tensor fasciae latae—among the longest muscles in the body. The sartorius flexes and externally rotates the thigh while flexing and internally rotating the lower leg (e.g., kicking a shuttlecock). The tensor fasciae latae flexes and internally rotates the thigh while providing auxiliary support during thigh muscle contractions.
The posterior group includes the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus muscles. The biceps femoris functions to flex and externally rotate the lower leg while extending the thigh. The semitendinosus and semimembranosus perform the same functions as the biceps femoris except for internal rotation of the lower leg. The medial group includes the adductor magnus, adductor brevis, adductor longus, and gracilis. These muscles ensure adduction, external rotation, extension, and flexion of the thigh, along with flexion and internal rotation of the lower leg.
The calf muscles are divided into anterior, posterior, and lateral groups. The anterior group functions to perform various movements of the foot and toes. The posterior group plays a crucial role in the push-off phase during running and the takeoff phase during jumping. The primary function of the lateral group is to maintain the arch of the foot. The thigh muscle group is among the most powerful in the human body. It can be said that it not only forms the foundation of overall strength but also the basis for a well-proportioned physique. If the thigh and calf muscles are underdeveloped, the more well-developed the upper body muscles become, the more disproportionate the figure appears, making it difficult to achieve a balanced and aesthetically pleasing physique.
Since the legs are primarily composed of muscle and fat, muscle occupies significantly less volume than fat for the same weight. Their volume ratio is at least one to three. Therefore, altering the proportion of muscle to fat in the legs can also achieve a slimming effect.Leg-shaping exercises achieve slimming effects by enhancing muscle quality and increasing muscle mass proportion. Improving muscle quality tightens leg contours, reducing circumference. Increasing muscle proportion also diminishes leg size for a slimmer appearance.
The above outlines our recommended leg muscle training methods. We trust you now have a solid understanding. Wishing you good health and happiness.
