What causes hair loss?
1. Kidney deficiency: The kidneys store the essence of all organs. Kidney deficiency leads to insufficient vital essence and blood, depriving hair of nutrients and causing shedding. The kidneys store essence, and its radiance manifests in the hair; when kidney qi declines, hair falls out.
2. Lung damage: The lungs govern hair and skin. When lung function fails, hair and skin are the first to suffer. As the primary organ for oxygen exchange and waste removal, lung health directly impacts oxygen intake, waste elimination, and nutrient distribution throughout the body. Hair, being a peripheral organ, loses nourishment when lung function is impaired, leading to hair loss.
3. Blood Heat: Premature graying and hair loss in youth stem from excessive blood heat. While blood deficiency or stasis is commonly assumed, it is actually overheated blood that impedes hair growth. Blood heat generates wind, and wind-heat ascends with qi to the scalp. When hair roots lack nourishing yin blood, hair may suddenly fall out. This is particularly common among those working in unfamiliar environments.
