On December 3rd, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) released October's national inspection results for quality and safety items. 1. "Toxic Water Cups" with Acrylonitrile Levels 145% Above Standard
Recently, the Shandong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau tested a batch of imported Korean water cups totaling 8,100 units, valued at 486,000 RMB.Testing revealed acrylonitrile levels in the cup lids exceeded national standards by 145%. The bureau lawfully ordered the shipment to be returned.
The Shandong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau explained that acrylonitrile is a highly toxic substance. Drinking from cups with severely excessive levels can cause acrylonitrile to enter the body, leading to acute or chronic poisoning. Symptoms typically manifest as neurasthenia syndrome, including dizziness, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, vivid dreams, and irritability.
2. Imported Wine Exceeds Preservative Limits
Recently, during inspection of 3,375 liters of dry white wine imported from Argentina by a company, valued at $9,821.25, the Shandong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau detected potassium sorbate levels reaching 365mg/L. This exceeds China's national wine standard limit of 200mg/L.The bureau supervised the destruction of the batch in accordance with regulations and actively assisted the company in pursuing compensation. Potassium sorbate, a preservative widely used in food, beverages, tobacco, pesticides, and cosmetics, can inhibit bone growth and damage kidneys and liver when present in excessive amounts.
3. Imported Toys Pose Safety Risks to Infants
In January, during tensile strength testing of imported dolls, construction toys, and miniature model components manufactured in Germany with a total value of $1,930.20, the Shandong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau discovered that the adhesive labels on the dolls and construction toys detached, and the small parts failed the tensile strength test.In accordance with relevant regulations, the imported dolls and construction toys were returned. It is reported that if small parts are accidentally inhaled by children, they can block the airway and pose a risk of suffocation.
