Lip tattooing refers to the process of tattooing the lips with a natural, light pink color for individuals with darker lip pigmentation or uneven coloration between the upper and lower lips. It is suitable for: congenital imperfect lip shape with indistinct cupid's bow; unclear vermilion border with breaks or defects; severely uneven lip edges, thin lips, or disproportionate lip length;or those with noticeably dull, lackluster lips due to anemia, cardiac, or circulatory disorders. It also enhances lip aesthetics and dimensionality for cosmetic purposes.
Lip Tattooing Procedure:
1. Begin by applying olive-shaped, pre-cut cotton pads soaked in epinephrine hydrochloride over the entire lip area for 15-20 minutes. Once the skin turns completely white, apply anesthetic.Once the anesthetic takes effect, the patient may feel lip swelling. To alleviate any misunderstanding, provide a small mirror for the patient to confirm their lips remain undistorted and unswollen.
2. Next, apply the lip line using a gliding needle technique at a 45-degree angle to the skin, repeating 4-5 passes for optimal color retention. Employ a "mesh" needle technique 4-5 times during lip tattooing.Avoid wiping while the pigment is being applied; allow sufficient time for penetration. Typically, after 8 minutes, use a "pressing" motion to gently wipe the area.
3. Adhere to the principle of "prefer shallow over deep, narrow over wide" during lip tattooing. After the procedure, do not apply any topical medications to the lips. The patient should continue oral and intravenous antibiotics for 3-5 days.
4. After lip tattooing, frequently clean the lips with cotton balls soaked in gentamicin to accelerate wound healing. A temporary lack of color may appear on the lips post-procedure. Under no circumstances should any methods be used to alter the lips during this phase. After 1-2 months, the lip color will even out, revealing naturally beautiful lips.
