After full lip tattooing, the large wound area reduces resistance, making it susceptible to bacterial and viral infections from the oral cavity and external sources, potentially leading to inflammation or herpes simplex. These blisters often appear along the outer lip line or on skin outside the lips, typically starting on the third day post-procedure. In some cases, blisters may develop 7-10 days after the wound appears healed.Within 1-2 days of blistering, complications may include lip bleeding, abscesses, pain, fever, and secondary anaerobic bacterial infections.
To prevent and control post-procedure infections, adhere to the following aftercare guidelines:
1. Psychological Support
Some individuals may experience abnormal psychological reactions after lip tattooing due to internal or external factors.Such as: suspicion, depression, criticism from friends and family, etc., which severely affect the physical and mental health of the patient. Therefore, providing thorough consultation and explanation is crucial.
2. Daily Care
2.1 Apply intermittent cold compresses within 24 hours post-procedure. Take antibiotics. Apply locally.
2.2 Avoid hot, scalding, and spicy foods for 7 days post-procedure. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
2.3 Rinse mouth with mild salt water after meals to maintain oral and lip hygiene.
2.4 Allow scabs to fall off naturally; do not peel them off manually.
3. Dietary Restrictions

3. Local Reactions
A small number of patients may experience burning, itching, and mild tightness along the lip margins 3–5 days after lip tattooing. This may be followed by erythema, clusters of small papules, or several millet-sized vesicles. Occasionally, a single vesicle the size of a soybean may appear. Vesicles rupture, dry, and form scabs, healing within approximately one week.At this stage, advise patients to avoid scratching, increase water intake, and consume more fruits. Maintain oral and wound hygiene. For wound cleansing, alternate between gentamicin and metronidazole solutions every 2 hours for 20 minutes per application. Alternatively, take Niu Huang Jie Du Pills orally twice daily (4–5 tablets each dose) and Virkon tablets three times daily (1 tablet each dose) for 3–5 days.
4. Infection Management
Prevention is paramount. For severe infections, administer intravenous drip of 250ml 10% glucose solution with 100ml metronidazole, or 250ml 10% glucose solution with 5mg dexamethasone, or other effective antibiotics. For allergic reactions, in addition to topical application or wet compresses of gentamicin solution mixed with dexamethasone, administer antiallergic and antibiotic medications as appropriate. Eliminate allergens promptly. Individuals with cold sores should receive antiviral treatment immediately.
5. Dietary Considerations
Avoid spicy foods, beef/mutton, fish/shrimp/crab, eggplant, mango, etc. Also avoid milk and soy milk.
