Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological issue among women, yet many neglect its treatment. In fact, dysmenorrhea poses significant risks; improper management may lead to infertility. So what factors cause dysmenorrhea? How should we treat it?
Does dysmenorrhea affect pregnancy?
Experts note that many cases of menstrual pain are pathological dysmenorrhea. Far from improving after marriage, the pain often intensifies over time. Beyond disrupting daily life, it may eventually affect other organs and lead to infertility. Some women who have experienced dysmenorrhea since adolescence often self-medicate without realizing that as they age, the nature of their pain may have changed from a common physiological cause to a disease. Unwittingly delaying diagnosis and treatment, they may only discover the issue when seeking treatment for infertility, resulting in increased suffering and greater treatment difficulty. There are two main causes of dysmenorrhea: 1.Primary Dysmenorrhea
Painful periods without organic lesions in the reproductive organs are termed "primary dysmenorrhea." This typically occurs in unmarried, childless women and generally does not affect fertility.
2. Secondary Dysmenorrhea
Painful periods caused by lesions in the reproductive organs are termed "secondary dysmenorrhea," or pathological dysmenorrhea. Its causes are complex and may include endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, intrauterine adhesions, rudimentary horn of uterus, pelvic inflammatory disease (acute or chronic), cervical stenosis, imperforate hymen, or vaginal septum. A series of examinations is necessary to determine the cause. Secondary dysmenorrhea carries a high risk of infertility.
