Double eyelids look best with eye makeup, but monolid eyes also have countless makeup tutorials—both eye shapes dominate international runways. How can monolid eyes rock this fall/winter's trendy makeup? Our featured model Kan Qingzi shares her personal experience: even monolid eyes can achieve stunning, versatile looks.
1. Thicken the upper eyeliner: After applying false lashes, use an eyeliner pencil to fill in the gaps along the base of your natural lashes. Then draw a thicker line from the inner to outer corner. The ideal width aligns with your natural eyelid crease when your eyes are open.
2. Emphasize the inner corner: When eyes with monolids are open, the eyeliner at the inner corner is often obscured by the crease. Therefore, apply a thicker line at the inner corner, slightly wider than the line in the center of the eye.
3. Extend the outer eyeliner: Using an eyeliner pencil, draw a parallel line along the lash line at the outer corner, extending it outward. Adjust the length by 1-2mm based on your eye shape. Then, blend the outer edge of the line naturally toward the tail.
4. Intensify liner to prevent smudging: Using a fine eyeliner brush, apply waterproof, smudge-proof gel liner over the freshly drawn line. This enhances intensity, minimizes crease lines, and prevents smudging. Liquid liner can also be used for this step.
5. Create an open-eye effect with liquid liner: Inner double eyelids often have a downward-curved shape. Using jet-black liquid liner, extend the line at the inner corner slightly forward and downward, mimicking the effect of a surgically enhanced open-eye look.
6. Blend shadow along the outer corner arc: Dip an eyeshadow brush into dark brown eyeshadow, lightly sweep it across the back of your hand, then gently sweep upward along the upper edge of the outer corner extension line. Blend this shade toward the center of the eyelid where it meets the eyeliner. This lifts the outer corner and enlarges the eyes.
Makeup Artist Tip: Pair this look with luminous foundation for a radiant complexion and voluminous, curled lashes. This eye makeup makes eyes appear larger and complements nearly any blush or lip color—simply adjust to your preference. Nude lips and cheeks also work beautifully, creating a softer, more refined aesthetic.Recommended Product: L'Oréal Paris Infallible 24/7 Waterproof Eyeliner, ¥110
Editor's Tip: For those with monolids, both eyeliner and mascara tend to smudge more easily near the inner corner. Therefore, flawless eye primer is essential during base makeup application. When selecting eyeliner and mascara, prioritize products with smudge-proof formulas.Recommended Product: L'Oréal Paris Infallible 24/7 Waterproof Eyeliner, ¥150
