Makeup should always be light rather than heavy. Even with light makeup, avoid prolonged lipstick application. While lipstick may temporarily make lips appear plump and moisturized, long-term use can lead to dryness, swelling, and itching. If these symptoms appear, honey is an excellent remedy for lip care.
2. Test for Allergies Before Regular Use
Women with sensitive skin should exercise caution when using lipstick. In addition to selecting products with safety certifications, test a small amount on the lower lip for one day. Only continue use if no adverse reactions occur. Avoid frequently switching brands; if changing products, always conduct a one-day patch test first. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately. Those with severe reactions should seek medical attention to be safe.
3. Remove lipstick before drinking and eating
Many women apply thick layers of lipstick and only touch up after meals when it fades, never considering removing it before eating or drinking. Lipstick is essentially a blend of chemicals. While occasional ingestion with food isn't a major concern, prolonged swallowing can cause significant health damage.
4. Thoroughly remove makeup before bed
Women must be careful when removing lipstick. The skin around the lips and eyes is extremely delicate and prone to irritation and allergies. Like eyeshadow, lipstick is one of the most pigmented cosmetics, requiring a specialized, strong cleansing solution to remove completely. Failure to do so can lead to the buildup of harmful substances like sebum, causing lip lines and darkening lip color. After cleansing, apply lip balm to protect the lips. Alternatively, soak a cotton pad in moisturizing toner or lotion and place it over the lips for about 10 minutes.
5. Check Heavy Metal Content When Purchasing
Lipstick can be contaminated to varying degrees during production, distribution, and use. Even though national regulations limit toxic heavy metals like lead and mercury in lipstick, long-term use can still cause harmful accumulation despite minimal individual doses.Substandard lipsticks often increase the dosage of heavy metals like lead and mercury to achieve brighter, more vibrant colors and longer wear. Frequently ingesting these "heavy metal lipsticks" can have dire consequences. Therefore, when selecting lipstick, always choose reputable and trustworthy brands.
6. Avoid direct application to lips
Frequent lipstick users may notice their lips seem less soft and supple than before. This can be attributed to aging, but improper lipstick application also plays a role.Generally, lipstick application should not cause discomfort. However, many lipsticks contain insufficient oils or improper ratios, leading to dryness and tightness after use. Some may even cause localized itching, pain, or peeling. Therefore, it's best to apply a layer of colorless lip balm before lipstick to thoroughly moisturize the lips. This enhances lip color while minimizing irritation from the lipstick.
