Did you know that what we eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day matters? Some foods are most nutritious in the morning but can harm your health when eaten at night. Today, we want to remind everyone: eating foods at the right time nourishes you, but eating them at the wrong time can be harmful. For your health and your family's, please take a few minutes to read this.
Due to fast-paced lifestyles, many now focus their meals on the evening. Here are foods absolutely to avoid at night:
1. Avoid ginger at night
Ginger has long been revered as a tonic for male vitality. Regular consumption can regulate prostate function and aid in addressing prostate issues. Ancient medical texts state: "Within a year, do not eat ginger in autumn;never eat ginger at night." Eating ginger in the morning accelerates blood circulation, clears the mind, boosts energy, and warms the body. However, consuming ginger at night can cause mental agitation, disrupt sleep, and hinder the body's natural repair processes during rest, leading to unnecessary damage.
Tip: Exception for colds—boiling ginger with brown sugar in water may provide some relief.
2. Avoid sweets at night
Many enjoy desserts after dinner, but since most people engage in little activity afterward, the sugars consumed break down into fructose and glucose. Once absorbed, these are directly converted into fat, easily leading to weight gain. Additionally, excessive sugar stimulates the pancreas to overproduce insulin, which over time can increase diabetes risk.
Those who frequently consume sweets have a significantly higher risk of fractures and osteoarthritis than the general population. This is especially true for children, whose joints are still developing. Excessive sugar intake can hinder joint growth and even affect overall development. Clinically, women who prefer sweets are more likely to develop candidal vaginitis.
3. Avoid Greasy Foods at Night
Greasy foods include not only fried items but also high-cholesterol animal organs. Consuming these increases the workload on the intestines, stomach, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. They also stimulate the central nervous system, keeping it active and making it difficult to fall asleep.
4. Avoid high-calcium foods at night
Evening meals should also steer clear of calcium-rich foods like dried shrimp or cartilaginous fish. Since the body's peak calcium excretion typically occurs 4-5 hours after eating, when this peak arrives, people are usually asleep. This causes urine to remain in the urinary tract, leading to increased calcium concentration and gradual buildup. Over time, this significantly raises the risk of developing urinary tract stones.
Therefore, evening calcium supplementation should neither be too late nor excessive, and should prioritize easily digestible forms. Drinking a glass of milk 1–2 hours before bed is an excellent choice.
5. Avoid Gas-Producing Foods at Night
Certain foods generate significant gas during digestion, causing bloating. Examples include beans, Chinese cabbage, onions, and corn.Excessive abdominal bloating not only causes gastrointestinal discomfort but also disrupts sleep.
As the old saying goes: "Eat right for health, eat wrong for harm." While seemingly a common proverb, it encapsulates fundamental knowledge about health and wellness. May everyone eat their way to good health!
