In traditional Chinese medicine theory, the human body contains numerous acupoints, each crucial for health maintenance. With gentle care and regular massage, these points can strengthen the body, prevent illness, and promote longevity. Below are seven acupoints for health preservation, disease prevention, and extended life.
Jiquan Point (KI1): In TCM, this point at the apex of the armpit promotes chest expansion, calms the mind, and harmonizes qi and blood. Modern medicine notes the armpit's rich lymphatic tissue; regular massage enhances circulation and immunity.Massage method: Cross your arms across your chest, place each hand on the opposite armpit, and use your fingers to gently knead and press for about 3 minutes. Then raise your left arm and use your right palm to tap the left armpit. Raise your right arm and use your left palm to tap the right armpit. Tap each side 30-50 times, repeating the sequence 5 times.
Neiguan (PC6): As the "connecting point" of the Pericardium Meridian, Neiguan is particularly effective for heart conditions such as rheumatic heart disease, myocarditis, and coronary heart disease, especially in preventing myocardial infarction. It is a core acupoint in traditional Chinese medicine for treating cardiac disorders. Located 2 cun above the wrist crease, consistent monthly massage significantly alleviates or eliminates symptoms like shortness of breath, chest tightness, restlessness, and palpitations.
Navel: The only acupoint on the human body that can be touched by hand and seen with the eye, it is named Shenque. Connecting internally to all twelve meridians, it has long been regarded by physicians as a crucial point for treating illnesses. Regularly tapping the navel can calm the mind, soothe the liver, promote gallbladder function, harmonize qi and blood, and facilitate the flow of the Triple Energizer.Method: Sit or lie supine. Using the palms of both hands, apply force from the forearms to lightly tap the navel continuously 100 times. Alternatively, stimulate the navel with heat application or kneading.
Guanyuan Point: Traditional Chinese medicine holds that Guanyuan fortifies the root essence and nourishes the lower jiao, suitable for all cases of vital energy deficiency.Located on the anterior midline of the lower abdomen, 3 cun (approximately 7.5 cm) below the umbilicus. Common techniques include kneading or vibration. For vibration, cross and overlap both hands over the point, apply slight pressure, and rapidly move them up and down in small, quick motions. Suitable for various reproductive system disorders, particularly effective for infertility, impotence, nocturnal emissions, premature ejaculation, dysmenorrhea, and irregular menstruation.
Popliteal Fossa: This diamond-shaped depression behind the knee contains abundant blood vessels and nerves. Regular tapping promotes qi and blood circulation while relieving spasms. A crucial point here is Weizhong (BL40), whose frequent massage alleviates common painful conditions like sciatica, calf fatigue, neck stiffness, and buttock pain. Massage method:Sit or lie prone. Using both hands with open palms, apply firm pressure to continuously tap both popliteal fossae.
Taixi Point: Located on the Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin, Taixi is the "Shu" point (transporting) and historically regarded as one of the "Nine Points for Restoring Yang," emphasizing kidney tonification. It is situated on the inner side of the foot, in the depression behind the medial malleolus, between the tip of the medial malleolus and the Achilles tendon. For nephritis patients, massaging this point can moderately lower high blood pressure and significantly reduce proteinuria. It is suitable for kidney diseases, chronic nephritis, diabetic nephropathy, etc. Zusanli (ST36): Zusanli is the "Convergence" point of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian, a vital point for strengthening and health maintenance. It has the effects of fortifying the body's defenses, regulating yin and yang, invigorating the spleen and harmonizing the stomach, and unblocking meridians and activating collaterals.Zusanli is located on the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 3 cun below the lateral knee eye, one finger-width lateral to the tibia. Apply pressure with the thumb of the same side or use a smooth wooden stick. Moxibustion with moxa sticks is also effective. Suitable for all deficiency-syndrome diseases, such as anemia, postpartum/postoperative recovery, and convalescence after major illness.
