Fetal loss is most common before 3 months gestation

The first three months of pregnancy are a vulnerable period. During this time, heavy physical labor, strenuous exercise, or accidental falls can easily lead to miscarriage. Statistics show that more than one in ten pregnant women experience miscarriage. Beyond accidental causes, miscarriages—especially those occurring around the ninth week—are often due to defects in the fertilized egg itself, which loses the ability to continue developing. This is a natural process of survival of the fittest.
Statistics indicate that fetal abnormalities occur in approximately 20% of human pregnancies, but this rate drops to 0.6% by delivery. This means most underdeveloped embryos are naturally eliminated through miscarriage. Thus, miscarriage is beneficial rather than detrimental.
Therefore, most medical professionals today do not advocate "forced preservation" through bed rest or symptomatic treatment while waiting for natural resolution. Recurrent miscarriage, defined as three or more consecutive losses, requires both partners to undergo medical evaluation to identify the cause.
