However, essential nutrients for human growth and development—such as vitamin B12 and vitamin D—are almost exclusively found in animal-derived foods.
Additionally, while various plant foods contain iron and zinc, their forms differ from those in animal sources. Moreover, plant foods often contain multiple "anti-nutritional factors" (substances that hinder nutrient absorption), making these trace elements difficult for the body to absorb and utilize.
Therefore, for groups with high nutritional demands like young children and pregnant women, as well as individuals with anemia or zinc deficiency, adopting a strict vegan diet without supplemental nutrients may worsen their conditions. For pregnant women, deficiencies in these micronutrients can further impact fetal development.
Managing High Blood Sugar During Pregnancy
In the case mentioned above, the mother exhibited high blood sugar symptoms in the late stages of pregnancy but failed to control them. Vegetarian Diets Can Also Include Unhealthy Foods
