Many men ask, "Isn't sleeping on your stomach good? It helps me sleep soundly!" In reality, sleeping on one's stomach not only compresses internal organs, hindering breathing and damaging organ function over time, but also puts pressure on the reproductive system: the penis becomes constricted, impeding blood circulation. This can lead to frequent nocturnal emissions, causing symptoms like dizziness and fatigue that disrupt normal work and life. The scrotum, when compressed, cannot dissipate heat effectively, causing scrotal temperature to rise. This negatively impacts testicular sperm production, reducing male fertility. Therefore, men who have not yet started a family should be especially cautious and absolutely avoid sleeping on their stomachs.
Sleeping on the Left Side
Since the heart is located on the left side of the body, sleeping on the left side compresses the heart, causing restlessness and poor sleep quality. Moreover, when the heart is compressed, blood circulation throughout the body slows down, including to the reproductive organs. Prolonged inadequate blood supply to the reproductive organs may potentially lead to erectile dysfunction.sleeping on the right side avoids compressing both the heart and reproductive organs, making it a relatively better sleeping position. However, it is not suitable for every man. Medical experts have discovered that both left and right side sleeping positions carry the risk of an unexpected complication—testicular torsion.
The testicles "reside" within the scrotum, connected to the body on each side by a structure called the spermatic cord. This cord contains blood vessels that supply circulation to the testicles. When men sleep in a side-lying position, the testicles and penis are compressed between the legs, experiencing significantly greater pressure than when standing. Some men, especially adolescents, move around a lot during sleep, twisting their legs and potentially "twisting" the spermatic cord into a knot, causing torsion and "knotting."Since the vessels supplying nutrients to the testicles and removing metabolic waste pass through the spermatic cord, any torsion can cut off blood flow and block waste removal. If this condition persists for over 12 hours, the testicle may suffer ischemia and necrosis.
Therefore, sleeping on the right side isn't the best position for men either. If men insist on sleeping on their right side, they should be mindful of their sleeping posture—avoiding excessive movement or twisting.
