Methods for Removing Burn Scars

In daily life, injuries from work are unavoidable. However, scars left behind can be troublesome, especially burn scars, which are harder to remove compared to other types of scars. But don't lose hope—there are steps you can take after a burn to prevent extensive scarring.
1. Burn Care: Maintain the burn site clean and dry. After rinsing with cool water, avoid further immersion.
2. After 2-3 days, the wound should dry. Apply burn ointment at this stage. For smaller areas, scab formation and healing typically occur within 1-2 weeks.
3. Never apply purple mercury solution or red mercury ointment to burns, as these interfere with monitoring wound changes.
4. Dietary Guidelines: Patients with extensive burns should adopt frequent, small meals. Provide high-calorie, high-protein, vitamin-rich, and easily digestible foods to boost immunity and accelerate wound repair.Additionally, avoid ginger and pigmented foods to prevent scarring. Apply burn ointments topically and take anti-inflammatory medications. Refrain from consuming peanuts and chili peppers to avoid internal heat.
For existing burn scars, numerous non-surgical methods exist for scar removal.
I: Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy involves applying cryogens directly to the surface of affected skin tissue, causing necrosis or inducing an immune response to achieve therapeutic goals. This treatment is suitable for various skin conditions, particularly periungual warts or lesions on facial areas like the nostrils and auricles. With minimal complications and simple operation, it is one of the common dermatological treatments.
II: Compression Therapy
Typically employs custom-fitted elastic sleeves tailored to the patient's measurements.
This method is suitable for extensive scar areas unsuitable for topical medication. It effectively prevents hypertrophic scar formation and treats scars in the proliferative phase (1-3 months), but is ineffective for scars in the regression or mature phases.Three key factors determine the success of compression therapy:
(1) Timing: Compression should begin as soon as possible after wound closure.
(2) Intensity: Inner layer pressure exceeding 25 mmHg can control or reduce hypertrophic scarring.
(3) "Persistence": Ensure continuous compression. If the patient finds it intolerable, the garment may be slightly loosened but must not be removed. After 3-6 months of continuous compression, scar redness typically subsides, and raised areas flatten or soften. Compression may be discontinued after 8-10 months when the scar softens and whitens.
III: Physical Therapy
Physical therapy applies natural or artificial physical agents, along with traditional medical physical methods, to the affected body. This induces a series of biological effects within the body, aiming to eliminate the cause of disease, alleviate or eliminate pain, restore disrupted physiological balance, enhance the body's defense capabilities, compensatory functions, and tissue regeneration capacity, thereby promoting recovery from illness.
IV: Ultrasound-Assisted Drug Delivery.
Ultrasound disperses collagen fibers and softens scar tissue. Administer once daily for 8-15 minutes per session, with 15 sessions constituting one course of treatment. This enhances drug absorption.
